"2021-2022 Welcome"

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is with great excitement that I welcome you and your child to the school year 2021-2022. This is a year like no other. Our staff and students are returning to work collaboratively in-person after approximately eighteen (18) months away from the building. I know that beyond the smiles and excitement lie some trepidation about the school year. Let me be clear, that at P.S. 26 our #1 priority is the safety and well-being of all students.

As a result, we must adhere to Health and Safety Guidelines. All students are mandated to wear masks and social distance- 3ft. This might be a bit difficult, especially for the younger ones, but we must give credit where credit is due - our children are more resilient and adaptable than we think. All it takes is parents and staff working in tandem to give daily gentle reminders.

This school year 2021-2022, there are additional support systems in place for all our students. We continue to maintain small classes on each grade and ensure that all students receive the services they need. As a school community of highly qualified staff and administrators, we believe in educating the whole child, thus laying the foundation to make our students lifelong learners and productive citizens. In partnership, we rely on you to continue to extend your child’s learning experience at home in the form of homework completion and review of schoolwork. Each student is expected to read daily to build knowledge and the necessary skills required to fulfill rigorous academic requirements. In order to bring all the above to fruition, it is imperative that your child attends school daily.

The Parent Handbook is meant to be used as a reference guide throughout the school year as it contains information that will answer many of your questions regarding policies and procedures at P.S. 26. If you have questions or concerns that are not addressed in this document, please call us at 718-919-5707. Thank you for entrusting us with your child at Jesse Owens/P.S.26 school. We look forward to a successful and productive school year 2021-2022.
