"2022-2023 Welcome"
September 1, 2022
Dear PS 26K- School Family and Community,
It is an honor to introduce myself as the new interim acting principal of PS 26 and to join this extraordinary school community. I hope that this letter finds you enjoying the final days of our summer vacation. I am looking forward to beginning a wonderful new academic year together. I can assure you that I share in the commitment to your children of a high-quality education in a conducive learning environment.
I arrive to P.S. 26K as a seasoned educator and school building administrator. In addition to my role as educator, I take immense pride in my role of wife and mother. My three children have attended and successfully graduated from NYC public schools. My children were afforded an excellent public education and I strive to provide the same access and equity for every student at our school.
The 2022-2023 school year will mark my 26th year in education. I have served communities in under-resourced schools in Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Queens. My teaching assignments have included: Early Childhood, Elementary, Gifted and Talented, Dual Language and At-Risk populations. I have supported students, families and school communities as a teacher, an Instructional Coach and Assistant Principal. I will continue my professional journey and high expectations for teaching and learning as your School Principal, I.A. I bring a genuine excitement and a spirit of service to this role. While working, collaborating with teachers, school staff and students on a daily basis, I will remain connected to learning and growing in the classroom. Through rigorous instructional practices and a supportive school environment, I firmly believe that every child will excel and achieve to their individual potential.
My conversations with educators, district staff, community organizations and families over the course of my leadership experiences have brought me privileged insights into the core beliefs and values that underlie District 16 and especially PS26K-The Jesse Owens School. With the goal of continuing the tradition and enhancing the academic excellence here at PS 26K. I am committed to always exploring new ways to meet the needs of all students and to communicate with staff, parents and community members effectively.
In closing, please know that my door is always open to you. I heartily welcome your conversation and positive input throughout this year. Let us always keep our children and their progress as the primary focus of our partnership this year. I look forward to celebrating our collective successes during the 2022-2023 school year here at P.S. 26- The Jesse Owens School.
Enjoy the remaining days of summer!
Sincerely
Diana Collazo-Funtleyder
